The next major project in which the ITE is involved is the Westküste100 real laboratory, which involves the construction of a water electrolysis system with 30 MWel of power to produce hydrogen and oxygen.
A central research component of the FH Westküste University of Applied Sciences sub-project is to develop a concept for scaling up the system to a 700 MW electrolysis plant based on the results of the other work packages. In addition to these technical and business management issues, the focus is on recommendations for the further development of the regulatory framework, a legal classification of hydrogen and storage technologies in the context of the energy transition, the development of effective measures for structural change in the West Coast region, the optimization of sector coupling between industrial companies, the development of social aspects of sector coupling such as stakeholder constellations, integrated municipal energy measures and the public presentation of the energy transition.
