Project description

Aquaculture in recirculation systems avoids the classic environmental impacts of fishing such as overfishing, destruction of the seabed, plastic pollution and aquaculture in net pens (sedimenting excrement, spread of pathogens, etc.). However, rearing in closed recirculation systems is only competitive with wild-caught fish to a limited extent due to the energy-intensive farming technology. Based on preliminary work, optimization potentials in the areas of energy efficiency (costs), hygiene (air humidity balance), climate impact adaptation (increasing cooling load) are implemented in a hall ventilation system in Büsum. In addition to replacing components, a cross-system model-based predictive control system is used for this purpose. The findings are transferable to similar production facilities. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the Fraunhofer IMTE, Büsum branch.
