Project description

For reliable and energy-optimized operation of cooling systems, deposits or sludge in the filling water are undesirable. In practice, however, bacterial films and sludge are often found which, in the worst case, cause pitting corrosion on pipes and fittings. The FH Westküste University of Applied Sciences is working on the basics of microbial corrosion in cooling systems using data on the water composition and microbiome of examined systems from a previous field study. Building on this, the project partners are developing rapid procedures for the reliable detection of problematic plant microbes and procedures for damage prevention and remediation of affected plants. The project contributes to maintaining infrastructure, avoiding downtimes, minimizing the pump energy required and saving chemicals.
