Project description
Concrete is the most widely used raw material in the world after water. At the same time, more than three billion tons are produced as construction waste. Construction waste is currently not fully reused. Although there are indications that the concrete recyclate contains unbound cement, there are no methods for recovering and reactivating it. The behavior of structures made from a mixture of concrete recyclates and biochar as an aggregate is also unclear. The BetoREC project aims to improve existing recycling methods. Concrete recyclates are to be examined for reusable cement content and methods for saving raw cement are to be developed. The use of biochar as a concrete aggregate and CO₂ storage is also being researched.
The project partners are Schröder Bauzentrum GmbH, Heide and BLOCK Bio Innovationen GmbH, Osterrade.
